For December in a departure from most months, we bring you two luscious red wines.
Second, is THE 2013 SCHUG SONOMA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON.
From California’s Sonoma Valley, this Cabernet Sauvignon is supple and generous, and solidly built in the classic Bordeaux style that Walter Schug pioneered in California while wine master of Joseph Phelps Vineyards in Napa Valley, 1973 to 1983.
A ripe mouthful of currant and cherry flavors are framed by fine tannins and a hint of spicy oak. The bouquet is classic, bursting with berries, cassis and spice. The Cabernet is blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, adding to the charm and grace of the wine, while enhancing the bright fruit flavors and lively acidity.
This wine is a perfect pairing for wild mushrooms, hearty stews, and grilled meats.
Decanter, the oldest consumer wine publication in the United Kingdom, awarded 90 points to this wine stating, “This has lush blackcurrant fruit and discreet oak, making it succulent and fresh.”
