THE 2017 LA SCOLCA WHITE LABEL GAVI Gavi is the name of a little town in the Apennines Mountains, located in Piedmont border to Liguria, from where the famous Italian white and dry wine has taken its name. Cortese is the white grape variety that is predominantly grown in these regions.
La Scolca White Label Gavi is 100% Cortese, sourced from estate-grown fruit. The vineyards are located in the Rovereto commune of Gavi, known as the “Grand Cru” of Gavi production because of its choice position in terms of climatic and terrain conditions. The grapes are farmed organically from vines planted on calcareous and limestone soil.
La Scolca “White Label” is considered the everyday, affordable alternative to the estate’s legendary “Black Label.” Although sourced from younger vines than the Black Label, this estate-grown Gavi offers similar richness and complexity from extended lees aging and the superb vineyard site that makes this choice a perfect by-the-glass solution and an everyday value for enjoyment at home.
The wine is light straw in color with green undertones; the wine is zesty with lemon aromas and notes of almond and stone fruit. Crisp, lively, with a mineral character and sharp acidity, it is refreshing on the palate and leaves a lasting finish.
Perfect with a variety of lighter dishes as pasta, vegetables, cheeses, seafood, and poultry, the wine is a good choice for an aperitif as well.
