February 2020 Wine Club White

Terra Alta is a Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) in Catalonia, Spain. One of the primary grapes planted here is the Garnatxa, (Grenache in France). Herència Altés is a relatively new winery with a stated mission of creating wines that work well for their “amazing garnacha grapes.”

The Garnatxa Blanca is a young, fruit-driven, clean and unoaked wine. In making this wine, the winemaker blended fruit from very old vines and younger vines to create a wine with complexity and balance. Grapes are picked before they lose their natural acidity. Whole clusters are sent to the wine press to minimize contact with skins. Only the first fraction of must from the gentle press is used. After fermentation, the wine is kept on its fine lees for 3 months.

This is a very aromatic wine, with notes of melon and white fruits. It is a medium-bodied wine on the palate with a nice, crisp finish.

A great aperitif wine, it is pairs well with simple tapas and grilled squid.

This certified Organic wine was awarded 90 points by James Suckling for the 2018 vintage.
